HELP!!!!!!

I need some MAJOR help!!!  I am drowning in a sea of beige and my own indecisiveness.  I am trying to paint my front room, and it is NOT going well. I have been wanting to paint ever since we moved into this house 2 1/2 years ago.  I actually don't mind the color it came with (a lovely , trendy beige) except it is on EVERY wall in EVERY room of the house.  I thought I wanted a sage-green for an accent wall, but after trying 3 different shades and still not happy with it, we are back to square one.  WHAT COLOR!?  This is so frustrating.  90 percent of our furniture has been handed down to us (NOT complaining!) so while I love that each little artifact has it's own little history, none of it really matches.  Where is my fung shway? (I wish I knew how to spell that word...)  So here is the current color scheme: carpet - light goldish beigh, walls - trendy beige, piano - brown, couches - brown and light brown, entertainment center - brown, cupboards - brown...are you noticing a pattern?  I need some color!  I feel like Sis. Encarnacion from Nacho Libre, "My favorite  color is light tan".  My real favorite color is pear green, but I don't think it belongs on my walls.  Do you have any ideas?  Seriously, do you?  Hurry before I give up and just settle for the tri-colored blotches on my wall and call it quits.

Hey Lisa, I think you should try that pear green or maybe like a pea soup green on your wall. I have the pea soup green on my wall and I love it. I also wanted red but since my husband has to have a say in things he said no so I went down on the color wheel and went with nutmeg orange. You could always do a mustard yellow. That would also help bring out the furniture pieces.
I can't wait to see what you decide.

How about a nice cream... JK. I think you should go for the green. See how it looks. You can always paint over it. Paint is only $13 at wal-mart!

Oh Lisa! How's it going? Congrats on the half-y and good luck on the next one! How's the girls?

I found this blog from a friend and I love it. She decorates her house with things that she finds at thrift stores and her house is amazing! Some things are a little wacky, but for the most part, she has good things...I think she even has a pear green coffee table. joysofhome.blogspot.com

Okay, my advise is not professional, but for me it solved the problem. Get yourself a kim parker print (google it.) She includes every color in her paintings so you can then decide what color to use to go with the beige blah. I agree, green is incredibly tricky and frustrating. I went with blue in my own house. I dunno.

I always look to my decorating books. I always like the colors that pottery barn uses and they have color schemes/ wheels that you can coordinate your colors to. Since I am not too good at coming up with a nice flow of colors myself I live by these wheels. They suggested to go with a pea green or golden color with the tones you already have and accent it with a few pieces in a a red if you wanted to. My living room is in a golden color and I love it. Very relaxing and warm. I am like you I have many odd pieces. Some of the furniture that we bought when we were first married. I no longer like it is a light wood so I am going to attempt to sand them down and re-paint them. I am thinking of doing our sofa table in a rustic red color. Not too sure yet but it would be interesting. the good thing paint is somewhat cheap so it is easy to change but it does take your time. Good luck and take pictures when you are done. You will do great!!

We just moved this weekend and in the living and dining room areas the walls are a beautiful green and beige. If you are interested, I can send you a picture and the names of the paint colors.

You need to come over to my house. Ours is tan/beige and a sage green color. The problem with ours it that we found it all on the "oops" paint section of Home Depot so I dont have color names but you could color match at Lowe's. We are currently doing slate tile and it is finally pulling it all together. Seriously, come over sometime :)

I agree with the picture idea. Find a painting or fabric that you love and then take the colors from that. Then you can take that and get it color matched for an accent wall. Then you have a picture and you can accent with pillows and odds and ends from Ross (or garage sales--my favorite). If you find fabric you can match it the same and turn it into pillows or even art work by wrapping it on art canvas and hanging it. I don't think you should choose a paint color before you have inspiration for the look of the room. It is harder to find doodads to tie it all together than it is to match paint to the doodads. I will stop now...sorry can you tell I love to do this stuff!?

Okay, sorry...one more thing. Have you ever tried to reupohlster your furniture. If you ever want to, I have done it and it is super easy and a really good way to get a custom look. I will help if you want...call me.

I don't know if you have already painted but what I have learned is...Pick a focal piont in the room, like a picture, look at those colors in that, you would want to bring out as a color on your wall. Also single colored throw pillows for the couch, you can use muilt colors so it ties in all the couches and chairs, pick colors from the same focal point in the room. Good Luck.

Having been in your house, I think you could pull off a green in there. You might have to get 50 swatches and tape them all up on the wall to find the right one, but I think the right green would look fabulous. Decorating is my passion...feel free to call me (or email) and I'll come give you my little opinion.

p.s. Joel did great at conducting the music last Sunday! I'm still so nervous up there!
